Community Opportunities

There are a multitude of opportunities for community members, alumni, and students to get involved with in our program. We would love to engage with you!

Placement Partnerships

Are you a professional or organization that is interested in hosting a dietetics student for a practice education placement? Learn more about what it means to be a preceptor or affiliate site, and how you can contribute to this essential part of dietetics education in BC by visiting the Preceptors page.

Curriculum Opportunities

Our coursework is enriched when we have opportunities to engage with working professionals to bridge the relationship between classroom to real-world settings. Here are some examples of ways alumni and other community members may provide their wisdom and invaluable lived experience:

  • Course instruction – look out for opportunities to teach courses with the UBC Dietetics Program as a sessional lecturer. Postings are circulated widely on Faculty-wide websites when opportunities arise.
  • Guest lectures or panels – often we host guests to speak to our students for short opportunities. Join our UBC Preceptor Mailing List to keep updated on opportunities that come up throughout the year. You can also Contact Us to inquire.

Advisory Committees

Our program’s core values include collaboration, community-focus, and inclusion. We are pleased to partner with community members in providing opportunities to provide feedback on program operations through our various advisory committees. Find out more about our committee opportunities by visiting the Advisory Committees page.

LFS Mentorship Program

The Faculty of Land and Food Systems Mentorship Program is a valuable experience for both professionals and students. Formalized mentorship relationships have been extremely helpful for both current and prospective dietetics students. Consider joining the LFS Mentorship program!

Alumni Engagement

Our faculty loves to showcase the career paths of alumni after graduation. Follow the Faculty social media channels to hear more about events and opportunities that may arise. Get in touch with the LFS Alumni Engagement Office to share your story!
